Justin Schuck and Company LLC (JS+Co.), the company I built over the last eight years, has closed its doors. While JS+Co. winds down the final administrative and legal tasks, I am very excited for the hope and promise of the future. The last few years were not silky smooth by any measure, but now I have a tremendous opportunity to realize my passions, and build on my strengths. Ever since I was a young boy I loved to create, get my hands dirty. I would work for hours in the backyard baking mud pies, using onion grass or acorns as a garnish. When I set to make a fort I did so with gusto. More than simply building a place to hide, I wanted to build lasting forts. These forts had wood floors fashioned from cedar roofing panels, carefully arranged leaf and thatch roofs to protect from the elements, and small rooms carved out of the interior of large boxwoods. I accomplished all of this before the age of eight.
The more I think about it, the more I remember the sublime feeling that comes from crafting structures with my bare hands. It is with this nostalgic energy that I return to design. I want to create, to build websites and brands, to oversee photographic styling and commercial production, drawing on my over 15 years of photography and 10 years of design experience. When I look back at my body of work, I am very proud of what I have created, but now it's time for a back-to-basics approach I'm calling Mud Pies & Forts.
Thank to my family and friends who have been supportive of me and this new venture.
